The oral health crisis isn’t approaching…It is here!

Responding to the needs of vulnerable populations statewide, ISDSF has awarded 64 grants for a total of $435,000 since 2006. Funds were used to purchase equipment, provide oral health education, awareness and access to care for children and adults statewide.

Help us Help Others

In Illinois, approximately 1.1 million children are enrolled in Medicaid/State Children’s Health Insurance Plan (SCHIP). Children enrolled in Medicaid/SCHIP have difficulty accessing oral health care for a variety of complex reasons. In 2000, a study of access to oral health care for Illinois low-income children showed only 33% of children enrolled in Medicaid or SCHIP utilized oral health care during the year.

Letter from the President

Hello and welcome to our new web site!  As the Illinois State Dental Society Foundation President, I am encouraging you to be a part of our mission to support dental education and to help people gain access to dental care-my two passions and we hope yours too.   Through your donations, the Foundation has been able to provide for Dental Research Day awards, dental student scholarships as well as an educational endowment fund which last year purchased some much needed items for the three Illinois dental schools.  Both the Community Grant awards and the Mission of Mercy are two very wonderful Foundation programs which have brought access to dental care for so many “needy” people. Please see the Mission of Mercy video of the last 2016 program in Collinsville-bring out the tissues when you watch it- few have dry eyes.

To help fund our projects consider participating in one of our fundraisers such as our golf outing or special event night at the Illinois State Dental Society (ISDS) Annual Session and oh yes, do not forget to click on the website to view the beautiful diamond ring that the Foundation will be raffling off at the ISDS Annual Session or a cash prize. You may buy a raffle ticket on our web site. Tell your friends to buy a raffle ticket(s) or attend the golf outing with you.

Mission of Mercy will be here before we know it, so please mark the date July 20th and 21st, 2018 in Springfield on your calendar and consider volunteering for the event-it is so rewarding!  If you have not participated in the past, do so this time. We would love you for it and so will the patients.

In closing this message, I’d like to introduce you to the hard-working Illinois State Dental Society Foundation (ISDSF) staff members:  Ms. Sandra Graves who takes care of the Foundation projects and Board activities and Ms. Sarah Jensen who has been doing such a super job of raising funds for MOM through business and corporate foundation donations as well as organizing other MOM support activities. Believe me these two are working hard.  I cannot say enough thanks to our ISDSF Board members and officers who volunteer their time, especially Dr. Keith Dickey who did such a splendid job as our Foundation President. He spent many hours of volunteer time and provided the Foundation with many successful outcomes.

Have a wonderful spring and we will talk soon…
